Excerpt from Hero: Acceptance

 An excerpt from my story:

*******

Nodding, “Like Naomi. But there are those who have a great potential that the gift manifests and becomes a power, a power which could rival the Oracles. Only after a few generations did the Oracles realize this flaw in their gift giving. So to prevent any one human from gaining too much strength, the Oracles would enslave and ultimately conquer all and anyone with enough power to potentially threaten their own power.”

“They enslave people?”

“Well, enslavement is a bit of a stretch. The enslavement is more of a subclass of Oracle. The Oracles locate and place a marker on the individual. This marker not only allows the Oracle to know where this individual is at but also to call them to their presence. The Marker also keeps the individuals power in check. Giving the excess power to the Oracle and depending on which Oracle the individual belongs to can lengthen or shorten their life.”

Hero blew out a overwhelmed breath. “I did not realize how involved we were to the Other worldly ones.”

“As I said before, humans have been ignoring or have forgotten how tangled our destinies are,”

“So where do nymphs come to play in the whole scheme of Oracles and gifts?” Hero asked as she gazed up into Tristan’s uncloaked face.

“The individuals are called many different names to humans. To Fluta her most powerful humans are often ghosts; Clarina’s are sirens; Lumeau controls mermaids, Lumeau was rather jealous and made her power humans suffer the transition to mermaids.” Hero watched Tristan shudder as if he were remembering a rather painful memory.

“Glais holds court over centaurs. Not quite as painful as the mermaid transaction but still not something you want to experience. Xopho loves to make her powerful humans the poor gypsies. Istle and Piccia are rather kind. They both control their powerful humans through connecting them to the joys in their lives. Istle connects hers to the crop seasons. These creatures will live from spring to the end of the harvest when they die. They are eternal, so as long as people crop and harvest crops these creatures will live. Some humans who have had the fortune of see them think of them as the living dead. Piccia connects her powerful humans to a tree.”

Hero sat chewing on her lips thinking of all the information which Tristan had spouted out.

“I do apologize for dumping all the information on to you,”

“It is a vast amount of information,” Hero smiled. “So my mother is a nymph. The Oracle Piccia saw how powerful she was and bound her to a tree.”

So that is a bit of new writing I have done for my story. The whole story is still really rough and I'm going through for the second time trying to get a smooth flow...We'll see how that goes.

I need to think of a better title then Hero. Hmmm...need to work on that.
