New Books!

I acquired two more books yesterday! Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon and A.S. Byatt's The Children's Book. I am very excited to read these. Both are rather large books and both have cool covers. I have heard many great comments on The Mists of Avalon. I am excited to read the Arthurian book. It would be my first and that is always exciting, delving into new territory. :) The Children's Book has the hint of mystery and family disturbance all bound up with a nice bow. The back summary caught my attention, so I hope it lives up to the intrigue I have for it.

Meanwhile, as I resist to start reading both of these, Rebecca is amazing. I starting to break into new ground with the book. I started reading and got about 100 pages in before I was lead off on a new tangent. But the second Mrs. de Winter is so adorably in love and nervous. Mrs. Danvers is creepier then Alfred Hitchcock's version of Mrs. Danvers...And Maxim, Laurence Olivier is the only image I see when I think of Maxim. Sigh, I watched Rebecca yesterday on youtube and I am stunned every time I watch it.

I love books.

Action, Adventure and Juan Cabrillo

Maybe because I am partial for the axed/wronged spy/government agent who wants do get back to his job/do the world some good with no strings attached at the moment, but the Clive Cussler Books of the Oregon Series are so much fun. I just finished Sacred Stone. The no strings attached adventures, the men and women who are smart and confident under pressure as well as a lead character who is awesome, suave and funny is really interesting to me at the moment. Juan Cabrillo is great, and I picture The Chairman as a Micheal Westen/Jeffery Donovan look alike despite the descriptions of him as a blue eyed, blond man with a mustache...I will admit it, Dark Haired men are more attractive to me. *Shrug* But Juan seems different than other action adventures...not much of a ladies man and bad things can happen to Juan. I mean he has a fake leg because the original was blown off when he was serving his country. The book deals with space meteors, space viruses, nuclear bombs and a crazy man who wants to destroy the Islamic Religion. I enjoy the plot and learned cool little tid bits about the holiest places of Islam structural and HVAC systems. Having studied environmental engineering and engaged to one mechanical engineer, it's so cool to read about those things. But the meteors and space virus was a pretty cool scifi aspect to the story. I enjoyed reading more about the difficult and delicate situation in the Middle East and trying to do the world some good to stop a crazy bad guy without starting WWIII...fully knowing nothing in real life could happen like what happened in the book. All in All, Cussler books are to Action Adventure as Nora Roberts is to Romance, which is awesome. I hope to keep reading more about Juan and the Oregon. Dirk Pitt is fun too. But on to Rebecca. Or to Hero's Story first...

Cats on my coffee mug...and other random thoughts.

I love my coffee mug. not for the obvious reason that the mug gives me coffee and with the coffee caffeine, but for the sake of the cool looking cats! Since my fiancee will not allow me to have a pet until I can prove that I can clean up after myself. Now in my defense, my fiancee and I have vastly different views of what is clean and what isn't. My fiancee things that a coffee table book sitting on the coffee table is messy. He is silly. But back to my cool cat coffee mug...it's just awesome.

Life has been busy or not. I worked super late on Sunday and got back home around 2am, so not until yesterday did I feel back to normal. So in that weird state of trying to get your sleep schedule back to normal I found a lady who will do our cake for the wedding and only need 4 more addresses to finish off the save the dates. So I have been productive.

Saturday is my Birthday!! Twenty four years old....crazy!! I love being 23 though. It is my favorite number. But we're going to go try on bridesmaid dresses and out for a few drinks Saturday night. I'm so excited to see the girls for I have not seen a lot of them since the beginning of September...and that is way to long.

I have been bad and haven't started Rebecca yet. But I am almost done with Sacred Stone by Clive Cussler! It's a fun book. I really enjoy the Oregon Files. Juan Cabrillo is pretty much super awesome. Pretty much on par with Micheal Westen from Burn Notice.

Ok....the coffee has set in and I'm super scattered brained and random! Enjoy the awesomeness that is October!!

Next book

I resisted the urge to go to Barnes and Noble today. I have a book shelf full of books I should re-read as well as many books which I have meant to read but have gotten pushed aside for another new and light book. So go me! But I have decided just now as I smell the wonderful smell of Golden Apple Orchard candle and peanut butter brownies that I will read Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier! I'm so excited to read this book for the film version with Laurence Oliver is amazing and was the reason I bought the book in the first place. So once I finish the book, a review will follow.

If anyone has recommendations, comments are always welcome with recommendations for books, movies and music!

Get out and enjoy life.

'It's 3 Am and I can't sleep without you...'

Christmas is all set up at one job and I am here awake, waiting to start my other job at 5am. The effects of the coffee are starting to wear off so I may take a two hour nap and see how I feel at 5, but work needs to get done. I am thinking of editing my story a bit to see how far I get or if my brain is even coherent enough to process creative thinking such as writing and editing a story.

So many options at the moment to pass the time: Staying up for 24 would be fun, but I remember the last time I did that...though I did not drink coffee then...I could write or read or draw, or go for a run...so many fun things. But I have a feeling the couch and I will be come good friends in a few moments.

What would you do if you were up at 3am?

There have been few instances when I have been awake at 3am wondering what to do. Most of the time I would be awake because of a sleep over in with my friends in high school, working on a project for classes in college or celebrating being awesome with college friends on second street or at the Court and/or Cross House...But never passing the time until jobs. Oh the great awesomeness of being grown up.

But it is now 3:07 am and 'I think I've found the perfect words to say,' ...more coffee...

Kudos for the people who know what song I've quoted... :)

To day feels...

Today feels like a day where anyone could do anything, win a war, ask that girl out on a date, write down a story idea which will make them famous, meet their hero, become a hero...So get out there and do it!

Inspirations

Inspiration is so fleeting. I am sure many more people have written more concise thoughts or have had deeper meaning to their words then what I will type in the next few minutes.

I am sitting at my computer after being told I do not have to work the flex hours that were planned for me, I pulled up my story. Sitting down, I looked at the words: "Prologue...In a castle, carved into the Cliffs of Dnalsi,"  and then immediately went to the word document, "save the date template" and continued to print out 100 copies of save the dates for my wedding.

From this regular occurrence, pulling up my story sitting down ready to tackle the next round of editing or adding a chapter to create a well rounded story, I change paths and do something more productive or at times less productive...coughfacebookcough. Even now as I sit here, I have wandered off to read the news that the Goo Goo Dolls have gained another Top 10 song only furthering their lead with 14 songs! Way to go!

But this is only furthering my point on how fleeting. I sat down to write a post talking about the fleetingness of my inspiration, muse, attention span...take your pick and I am only being lead around by my blank mind. I wonder if this is my muse telling me to get the creativeness flowing or to trigger a thought from an image or another post. Hmmm...now that is a thought.

I love to write. I love the characters I am creating, but why is it I cannot keep at it for more then a few minutes? There are other times when I can sit down and forget time and space and the four hours I have to get my work done is gone...

To my muse,

You are brilliant and I wish for you to stay with me as long as you deem.

Yours,

Emma

The Weekend

What a great weekend! First, I did not have to work, which despite keeping me occupied and making money, I enjoyed not having to work this past weekend. But my best friend and I were running around all over the place. First we went to Waukesha to witness the awesome wedding of Nick and Amy. Congrats!! Watching them be so happy despite the extreme stress of the day, was so exciting for me. I am very excited to get married. Which seems very womanly. Which also plays into my thoughts about how I feel like society wants me to become a successful professional woman. Doing stuff, taking names and kicking some butt. But in all reality, I really would love to stay at home and take care of my family. I wouldn't mind taking up a part time job so I can have some money for myself. But I feel like everyone in the world today seems to think if  woman wants that in life, she has failed. Which makes me sad. Do not get me wrong, I am all for women progressing in the professional world. I have a degree in Environmental Engineering. But I wish people would not look down upon men and women who want to raise a family and live a simple life.

But leading on past the amazing weddings (for another friend, Anissa, was married this weekend. Congrats!!) Sunday morning, I had a great breakfast with friends. Spinach, tomato, feta and scrambled eggs are delicious, fyi.  But I got my birthday present early...tickets to go see the GOO GOO DOLLS!!! I have listened to these talented men since I was in seventh grade. It was so amazing. Besides being my favorite band ever, the concert was also my first concert ever. I would like to thank the Goo Goo Dolls for making my first concert experience the best!

This weekend was a success. :)
